Objective

The goals of Internship in Physics -course are to become familiar with workplace activities, deepen the professional skills and apply theoretical knowledge in practice as well as to clarify career plans and establish contacts with employers. The working experience in the own field give the advantage in the labor market. Training can also be done abroad. The course develops the following generic skills: critical thinking, identification and development of one's own expertise, and interaction and communication.

Content

The content of training is planned individually for each student. M.Sc. level training should be connected to topics of degree program and it should clearly require academic skills. The students themselves acquire the training positions. The training positions can be found in research institutes, companies, government, municipality or different organizations. Execution methods

In advance, student must submit a training proposal (aim of training, training position, working place and faculty supervisors) to the department office (form: https://kamu.uef.fi/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Lumet-harjoittelusuunnitelma.do t). Workplace supervisor is typically a person who has an academic degree in the field of subject. Faculty supervisor is a professor, researcher or teacher of the department. The head of department (person in charge of the subject) approves the plan and determines the level of training (B.Sc. or M.Sc.). After training, the student will write a report of about 5 pages on the training, which includes a description of training place, its business idea, his/her role in the organization as well as the duties carried out during training period. Furthermore, training report will consider how previously completed studies supported the training carried out and what new he/she learned during the training period. The report must include a copy of the letter of reference. The working place supervisor approves the report. The faculty supervisor accepts the report and evaluates the credit points. The training report must be delivered to the department office. Note that one week of training typically corresponds to one credit. The shortest time of training is two weeks. The same work cannot be included to both Master thesis and to practical training.

Accomplishment methods

Modes of study: Training proposal before training, practical training and a written report on the training. One week of training typically corresponds to one credit.
