Objective
Learning outcomes: Upon the completion of the course, the student - has gained extensive experience of the selected field of Byzantine chant tradition on a theoretical and practical level - is able to transcribe and sing from modern Byzantine neumes - is able to create a written scientific or artistic production on the chosen topic - is able to evaluate his/her own development as a specialist on the topic
Content
During the course, the student explores a selected field of Byzantine chant tradition (chant traditions, arranging old chant, history, theory). He/she studies the elementary signs of the modern Byzantine neumatic notation and prepares a written report or an artistic presentation. The student reflects upon the development of his/her own competence.
Qualifications
Participation in the course presupposes a completed Bachelor’s degree or a completed set of supplementary studies (those admitted directly to studies on the Master’s level).

Accomplishment methods
Modes of study: Supervised exercises 16 h, exercises of neumes 38 h, preparing the report or production and writing the study journal 349–351 h, artistic production 2 h. Evaluation criteria: - Study journal (6 p.) fail–pass - Assignments, fail–pass - Written report (12–15 p.), options: essay, transcript of musical material, chant adaptation, or teaching material, OR - Artistic production: a presentation by the student alone or with a group s/he has rehearsed, on the basis of material prepared by her/him (concert, liturgical performance), 0–5
