Objective

You will learn the basics of the special features and history of Finnish culture and understand how they have shaped the Finnish mentality and society.

Having completed the course you will
1) know the basics of Finnish culture and history
2) be able to analyse and make comparisons between Finnish culture and your own.

Content

You get an overall picture of Finnish culture and history. The lecturers and contents will be announced at the beginning of September each year.

Further information

Teaching of Finnish as a second and as a foreign language.

Timing: Autumn term.

Execution methods

Lecture series, 20 hours. Lecture journal. Alternatively, you may complete the Finnish Culture course as a literature exam or as an essay written in Finnish or English. The material is agreed beforehand with the teacher.

Accomplishment methods

Participation in the lectures (80 %). Lecture journal in Finnish or English OR a literature exam/essay written in Finnish or English on material determined beforehand with the teacher.
