Objective
Having successfully completed the course, the student will be able to
1) communicate in more complex situations, such as the ones they might encounter when working or studying in Italy
2) read and understand different types of texts in Italian
3) understand and use more complex sentence structures
4) understand important features of Italian culture and everyday life
5) achieve the level A2 of the CEFR (the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
Content
La mia storia italiana
In this course, your own Italian story begins. You have moved to Italy and find yourself an apartment, meet new friends and colleagues, read job advertisements and apply for a summer job. In the course, you are going to get familiar with new text genres and Italian spoken language. Additionally, you are going to learn more about everyday life and workplace culture in Italy.
During the lessons, we will concentrate on listening comprehension, pronunciation and speaking exercises, and we will use pair and group exercises and small games in order to activate your communication skills. At home, you will be required to do some preparatory work for the lessons, as well as some homework and online activities in order to reinforce the language structures you have learnt in the course.
Qualifications
XITA0001 Italian 1, XITA0002 Italian 2 and XITA0003 Italian 3 or equivalent studies (CEFR A1-A2). If you have studied Italian before and you would like to attend the course, please contact the teacher before the beginning of the course.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
1) active participation in class (attendance min. 80%)
2) completion of homework tasks and online activities (Moodle)
3) final exam.
Materials
Teacher’s own materials are used in the course. Contact the teacher if you need recommendations for course books.
Execution methods
Contact teaching, work in small groups, independent work on online learning platform (Moodle).
Accomplishment methods
Student’s individual or small group work (60 h), including homework assignments, preparatory work for the meetings, online exercises and activities. Final exam (written and oral). It is allowed to miss a maximum of 2 classes, and it is necessary to do extra work to make up for any missed class.
