Objective

Upon successful completion of the course participants will have an understanding of differences in working-life cultures around the world, including differences in values, goals, priorities, behaviors and communication. They will be able to put the differences they encounter into context. Reversely, they will be able to predict differences in working-life habits and communication based on knowledge of the culture in question.

Content

The course is intended as an eye-opening exercise for anyone intending to work, or currently working, with partners, clients or customers of diverse cultural background. This includes members of the staff at LUC. the course includes: definitions of culture; comparative research by John Mole; the Lewis Model; relevant culture dimensions (based on the models by Geert Hofstede & Fons Trompenaars); research into management styles by Project Globe.

Execution methods

Lectures 12 h, multicultural team work and written assignment.

Accomplishment methods

Active participation in lectures, homework (reading in preparation of the lectures), keeping a lecture journal, completion of written assignment.
