Objective
After completing the course, a participant understands the specific characteristics and practices related to supervision and guidance in an academic community is familiar with theoretical approaches and models of supervision and guidance, and is able to apply them in practice can observe the interaction, processes and practices of supervision and guidance and is able to identify strengths and areas for improvement in their own supervision and guidance practices can analyse and solve supervision and guidance challenges using pedagogically justified approaches, both in their own work and within their community recognises different levels of academic supervision: individual or group as a supervisee, and the individual or community as supervisor is able to foster a communal approach to supervision and guidance in their work community and networks
Content
The course will enable participants to identify, analyse and solve pedagogical challenges related to academic supervision and guidance. Participants will deepen their understanding of supervision and guidance by familiarising oneself with related research, instructional practices and working methods. This knowledge and skills will be applied to the development of supervision and guidance in their own work and in the community. The course includes practical teacher training (2 credits).
Qualifications
Completing the course Teaching and learning in higher education (10 ECTS) or equivalent is recommended before starting this course.

The course is for academic and professional staff and doctoral researchers working at Tampere University. Application procedures are organized separately.
