Objective
After completing the course, the student will be able to • identify the basic structure of atoms • write the electron configuration of atoms and molecules • draw Lewis structures for simple molecules and construct molecular structures based on the VSEPR model • apply the basics of bonding models according to molecular orbital theory • identify the names and structures of d-block metal complexes. • know the basics of crystal field theory and apply it for the electron configurations
Content
Electronic structures of atoms and molecules. Chemical bond in molecules and bonding theories. Structures of metals and ionic solids. Structures of transition metal compounds and crystal field theory.
