Objective

Content

Legal information retrieval, research methods in law, legal writing and argumentation, conducting a research in law, legal debate.

Qualifications

HTK-opiskelijoiden pakolliset edeltävät opinnot: Yleiset oikeusjärjestysopinnot 60 op sekä suurin osa pääaineen perus- ja aineopinnoista. ON-opiskelijoiden pakolliset edeltävät opinnot: suurin osa ON-tutkinnon perus- ja aineopinnoista. Sivuaineopiskelijoiden pakolliset edeltävät opinnot: pääaineen perusopinnot sekä suurin osa aineopinnoista. Seminaarin vetäjä arvioi opiskelijan edellytykset osallistua seminaariin. Osallistuminen seminaariin vahvistetaan noin viikkoa ennen seminaarin alkamista.

Execution methods

The seminar meetings include: -Preliminary kickoff meeting -Presentation of research plan -Presentation of the Bachelor’s thesis (including opponent’s comments) During the seminar, students will give peer feedback as well as receive feedback from the instructor. The seminar may include independent or group assignments given by the instructor. Participation in the seminar meetings and completing the assignments is a compulsory part of the seminar. The objective is to complete the Bachelor’s thesis during the seminar. The details of each seminar will be defined by the instructor of each seminar group. The student is entitled to personal guidance with the instructor. The student may agree upon the topic of the thesis with the instructor prior to the beginning of the seminar. The course 5311005 Retrieving of Legal Information must be completed during the seminar at the latest. Degree students of the law school must also complete the maturity exam by writing an abstract of their thesis. All theses shall undergo an originality verification by an electronic plagiarism detection tool.

Accomplishment methods

From the beginning of the autumn semester 2022: Compulsory seminar, research plan, thesis (25-30 pages) giving feedback to other student’s work as an opponent, independent work. The overall amount of work in hours during the course is approx. 267 hours. Evaluation criteria: Active participation in the seminar and Bachelor’s thesis will be evaluated on the scale 0-5. Before autumn semester 2022: Compulsory seminar, research plan, thesis (20-25 pages) giving feedback to other student’s work as an opponent, independent work. The overall amount of work in hours during the course is approx. 267 hours. Evaluation criteria: Active participation in the seminar and Bachelor’s thesis will be evaluated on the scale 0-5.
