Objective
The student will be able to : • identify central regulation, actors and organizations of Finnish urban planning • conceivs processes and structures affecting planning • know practices related to planning • apply main approaches of planning theory • analyse issues related to power and participation in planning.
Content
Lectures focus on operation and history of the Finnish urban planning system with help of example cases. They also discuss theoretical approaches of planning as well as planning conflicts and participatory methods. The course includes visits to concrete planning cases on the spot and independent observation. Exercises focus on concrete practices of planning on a selected topic. Exercises consist mostly of independent group work.
