Objective

Learning outcomes: The student will gain deeper understanding of the techniques and research field of biopharmacy (ADME, drug delivery, pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenetics). Generic skills: critical thinking, recognizing and developing own expertise

Content

During the course the student becomes familiar with the discipline of biopharmacy using literature, which is agreed between the student and professor. The course is suitable for the advanced studies of M.Sc. degree students and for Ph.D. students at UEF. The course material is selected individually for the students depending on the knowledge, aims and the discipline of the student. ADME and pharmacogenetics: inquiries to Paavo Honkakoski Drug delivery: inquiries to Tatu Lajunen Pharmacokinetics: inquiries to Veli-Pekka Ranta NOTE: YUFE students are eligible only for the Pharmacogenetics and Drug delivery topics.

Qualifications

Basic courses related to the selected topic are essential. YUFE students: Undergraduate level knowledge of genetics, pharmacokinetics and biochemistry are necessary for the Pharmacogenetics topic. Previous studies in pharmacokinetics is sufficient for the Drug delivery topic. Please provide your study transcript when making the inquiry.

Execution methods

Independent work (50 - 210 h), final exam (4 h) or learning diary.

Accomplishment methods

Modes of study: Written exam or a learning diary, answers can be written either in Finnish or in English. Evaluation criteria: Accepted exam of learning diary 100%. ECTS credits (2-8) will be given based on the level and extent of the literature chosen.
