Objective

Upon the completion of the course, the student - has acquired stools for elementary level accompaniment and harmonization - is familiar with the basic functions of the chords, their substitutes, and their marking - is able to produce melody and harmony simultaneously - has gained experience in rhythmic treatment and formal analysis - is able to read the score, to recognize the essential features in a choral score and to apply his/her perception of harmonies in score playing - has developed their own expertise and communication skills Generic Competences: Identification and development of expertise

Content

During the course, the student becomes acquainted with - fourth chords, their use and marking - harmonizing the melody using basic functions, substitutes, predominant chords when moving between parallel keys - besides chordal procedurs of I-IV-V7 and II-V7-I-VI, the diatonic progression by fifths - figures of accompanying such as beast, fifth bass, broken chord, triplet phrasing - playing chordal notes below the melody with the right hand - producing different structures such as the prelude - accompanying familiar melodies on the basis of hearing - employing harmonizing skills in the playing of full score - playing a score of two and four staves up to eight vocal parts - the repertoire that consists of minimum 15 pieces of different styles

Execution methods

The course is completed with an agreement with the piano teacher about teaching.

Accomplishment methods

Modes of study: Individual training with the teacher 27 h, independent work 26 h, exam 1 h Evaluation criteria: In the exam, the following are evaluated by a board (0–5) - the prepared repertoire of five pieces, two of which are played with a melody and one only as accompaniment - prima vista piece: accompanying a selected piece from real chordal symbols (evaluates the chordal familiarity and the skills of accompanying in a manner that suits the original) - one piece of harmonization, the use of basic functions and their substitutes - one piece of score playing from the repertoire
