Objective
Upon the completion of the course, the student - is familiar with basic concepts of polyphony - is able to write small compositional sketches using polyphonic techniques from different periods - has deepened their critical thinking and own expertise Generic Competences: Identification and development of expertise
Content
During the course, the student becomes acquainted with - polyphonic and voice leading techniques of the Renaissance, Baroque, and Classicism - practicing counterpoint technique on two-, three- and four-voice settings

Execution methods
The course can be replaced with Joensuu conservatory course Harmony 2: composition, in which the student gains experience in composing different styles (for example Baroque, Classicism, Romanticism, Impressionism, dodecaphony). Individual training (27 h).
