Objective

Learning outcomes: Upon the completion of the course, the student - has gained experience of the different forms of a cantor’s work in the parish - is able to evaluate the relationship between his/her own training and the cantor’s work - is able to apply the gained experience in his/her further studies and the development of his/her professional identity - is able to write a reflecting report of his/her personal process of learning

Content

During the course, the student becomes acquainted with the cantor’s work in the parish. Through observing selected cases, the student contemplates on his/her own competence as a cantor and the ways of developing his/her professional identity.

Execution methods

- The student may proceed with the study unit after passing Liturgical Practice for Bachelor of Theology (Church Music). - The study unit should be completed before taking part in Practical Applied Studies (parish practice). - A plan of completing the study unit must be approved by the professor of church music. The writing of the report begins with the approval. - The observation takes place in 3–4 parishes, upon prior agreement with the local cantor.

Accomplishment methods

Modes of study: - Observing 3–4 authentic cases of a cantor’s work (e.g., choir rehearsal, teaching) and feedback sessions, 40 h, AND - Independent work: writing a plan and a report complemented with literature 95 h. Evaluation criteria: A preliminary plan of action, a report (study journal) of the observed cases (9 p.), fail-pass
