Objective

Content

During the course, the student trains his/her vocal technique and explores an extensive range of classical singing repertoire of different styles. • vocalises by Marchesi, op. 15 (no. 1–10) and other vocalises • 5 songs or arias from the Renaissance and Baroque period in the original language • 20 pieces from the 18th–19th century repertoire in the original language (Beethoven, Brahms, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Wolf) • 5 pieces from the period of late Romanticism, Impressionism, or more recent period • 5 oratorio, cantata and opera arias with recitatives, solo cantatas or ensemble compositions in the original language or in Finnish; one of these may be replaced with a piece from a musical or an operetta aria • 5 Nordic (not Finnish) pieces • 20 Finnish pieces of different styles (sung in Finnish and Swedish). Five of these must belong to compositions of new tonality.

Qualifications

Participation in the course presupposes a completed Bachelor’s degree or a completed set of supplementary studies (those admitted directly to studies on the Master’s level). In addition, Singing D, exam part (minimum grade 4/5) must be completed before this course.

Accomplishment methods

Modes of study: Exercises supervised by a teacher 62 h, accompanied (piano) exercises 10 h, independent work 331 h, singing exam 2 h The teaching is divided to two study years (31 h + 31 h). The accompanied exercises take place in the spring semester of the second year. Evaluation criteria: Active participation in the teaching and a singing exam evaluated by a board: Part 1: Marchesi 1–10 (no. 10 is obligatory, 1–2 selected by the board), fail-pass Part 2: repertoire consisting of all the named categories, 0–5
