Objective
Learning outcomes: Upon the completion of the course, the student - is able to prepare a high level artistic production of church music with its complementary materials - is able to analyse the source material of the artistic production and report the findings in a scientific thesis - is able to pose research questions to the chosen material and answer to them - is familiar with the chosen research method and literature central to the topic - is familiar with the good scientific practice and manner of presentation - is able to present conclusions in a logical way and critically evaluate them
Content
The student prepares an artistic concert production and writes a Master’s thesis related to the topic, on the basis of their seminar papers, under the professor’s supervision. The final thesis consists of the artistic production (½) and the written thesis (½).
Qualifications
Prerequisites: - Choral production: Specific Topics in Church Music: Choir Conducting 3 (grade minimum 4/5) - Byzantine chant: Specific Topics in Church Music: Byzantine Chant (grade minimum 4/5) - Slavic chant: Specific Topics in Church Music: Slavic Chant (gradu minimum 4/5). In case of a lower grade, the student must give proof of an adequate starting level before a board. The initiation of an artistic production presupposes an approved research plan and participation in a Master's thesis seminar.

Accomplishment methods
Modes of study: The options for an artistic production are: choral conducting, Byzantine chant, or Slavic chant. For the concert, the student compiles a programme that contains information about the performed pieces and/or their composer(s). 1) Choral production: - Artistic part 405 h: supervised exercises 16 h, supervised rehearsals with the choir 16 h, independent work 369 h, concert 4 h, AND - Scientific written part: independent work under the professor’s supervision 405 h 2) Chant production: - Artistic part 405 h: supervised exercises 32 h, independent work 369 h, concert 4 h, AND - Scientific written part: independent work under the professor’s supervision 405 h Evaluation criteria: - Artistic production (concert c. 45 min–1 h, programme booklet), evaluated by the board, 0–5. - Written thesis (25–30 p.), the criteria for a Master’s thesis as formulated by the Philosophical Faculty, 0–5. The final grade is given by the Head of the School of Theology on the basis of the evaluation of the artistic production and the written thesis. In case their average grade is not of exact value, it is rounded to the grade of the written thesis.
