Objective
Upon the completion of the course, the student - has gained extensive experience in the standard liturgical repertoire and complementary compositions, used in the Finnish Orthodox Church - is familiar with the chant and text books for the Holy Week - is familiar with the basic liturgical repertoire in Swedish, English, and Church Slavonic languages - is able to sing all the chants of the liturgical repertoire prescribed for the study unit (soprano, alto, tenor, bass parts) - understands the principles of applying Octoechos chants to different choral settings and is able to produce their written arrangements - has gained experience in designing coherent musical settings for liturgical use - has gained experience in identification and development of expertise, self-management, and communication Generic Competences: Identification and development of expertise
Content
During the course, the students expand their knowledge of the Orthodox musical tradition from the standard repertoire used in the Finnish Orthodox Church to composed material and different local chant traditions. They become familiar with the musical content of the Holy Week and liturgical chants in different languages. The students estimates the choices for chant material in different contexts and becomes familiar with arrangements for different choral settings (e.g., three-part female choir, male choir, three-part mixed choir).

Accomplishment methods
Modes of study: Lectures and exercises (62 h), independent work and assignments (73 h) or Independent work (133 h) and two separate exams (2 h). Evaluation criteria: Active participation (80%) and assignments. Oral exams (included in the exercises), 0–5: 1) All parts in the notated chant material for the Holy Week 2) Other scores studied during the course and all parts of the chants in different languages
