Objective

Upon the completion of the course, the student - has acquired basic skills in conducting the choir: hand technique, conducting liturgical music, score playing, rehearsing the choir and guiding voice formation - is able to use the tuning fork in elementary harmonies - Is able to sing all the voice parts of the studied repertoire - has basic skills in the choral score playing - is able to recognize the central aspects of compositions of a basic level and apply the ideas to conducting - has gained experience in leadership and communication Generic Competences: Leadership and development, Identification and development of expertise, Interaction and communication

Content

During the course, the student becomes acquainted with - different parts of choral conducting: analyzing the score, hand technique, basics of choral voice formation, use of the tuning fork, studying the voice parts, playing the full score - preparing a repertoire and conducting at an exam

Execution methods

If necessary, teaching for this course is organised simultaneously with the course Choral Conducting 2.

Accomplishment methods

Modes of study: Lectures and small group exercises 63 h, independent work 70 h, final exam 2 h Evaluation criteria: Active participation (80%) in lectures and exercises, final exam evaluated by the board. Evaluation criterias: - rehearsing the choir: new piece (made public seven days before the exam at the earliest) - three pieces conducted from the repertoire (the board chooses one) - score playing from the repertoire The board includes the teacher and at least one specialist in conducting.
