Objective

Upon the completion of the course, the student - has acquired skills to act as a responsible singer and participate committedly in choral activity - is familiar with different areas of the art of choral singing (rehearsal, concert) - has gained experience in interaction and communication as well as sustainable and responsible work Generic Competences: Identification and development of expertise, Interaction and communication

Content

During the course, the student becomes familiar with selected Orthodox choral repertoire, rehearsal techniques, concerting and liturgical practice. The course enhances through practical experience the understanding of choir psychology and the choir as a social community.

Timing: 1st-2nd study year. Offering data: Major students of church music. Other students can participate after demonstrating sufficient musical skills to the teacher. Campus: Joensuu Further information: Choir for the course is Johannes Teologin Laulajat. The choir can also function as a practice and examination choir in studies of choral conducting. Language of tuition: Finnish

Accomplishment methods

Modes of study: Participating in two separate productions (rehearsals and concert or recording, one concert production appr. 1 h). Rehearsals c. 65 h, independent practicing 10 h, productions 6 h. Evaluation criteria: Active participation (80%) in rehearsals and completed productions, pass-fail. Incomplete productions do not count for passing the study unit.
