Content
The course focuses on the phonetics and phonology of English from linguistic and practical perspectives. The theoretical [MR1] component focuses on the linguistic description of segmental and prosodic features of English, allophonic variation, functions of intonation, and the application of phonetics and phonology in teaching and technology. The practical component begins with a diagnostic test. Students with significant nonstandard features in their pronunciation will participate in pronunciation exercises (7 hours) in the language laboratory with a teacher. These classes pay attention to each student’s individual problems in producing sounds and prosodic features (e.g. intonation, tonicity, weak forms and linking). Students who pass the diagnostic test will carry out self-study using pronunciation materials in Moodle.
