Objective

Learning outcomes: After completing the course, the student - has become acquainted with literature as a social and cultural phenomenon - has obtained an overview of literature research as a discipline - knows and is able to apply the most important concepts of literature, such as text, context, author, reader, kind, narration and intertextuality - has acquired the ability to analyze and interpret various texts in studies and working life -has developed the skills of managing large-scale issues and the ability to understand, evaluate and create cultural meanings

Content

Content: The course deals with the starting points of literary research and the key concepts of literary analysis.

Materials

Book exam: - ALANKO ja KÄKELÄ-PUUMALA (eds.), Kirjallisuudentutkimuksen peruskäsitteitä, s. 64–289 and - MÄKIKALLI ja STEINBY (eds.), Johdatus kirjallisuusanalyysiin. Students whose first language is not Finnish can complete the course in English by taking the following examinations: KLARER, An Introduction to Literary Studies s. 1–132 ja BRILLENBURG WURTH ja RIGNEY, The Life of Texts s. 1 1–274. Lecture course: Additional material indicated in the course.

Offering data: The course is intended as part of basic studies in literature and joint studies in language subjects. Further information Language of instruction in the lecture course Finnish, in the book exam Finnish or English. The book exam is taken on the general exam day of the faculty or as an exam exam: https://kamu.uef.fi/student-book/exam-opiskelijan-juh/ Teachers: Meri Kinnunen and other teachers The course includes a lecture course 2122112a Basic Course in Literature (2 cr). The course can be supplemented to the extent of 5 credits when the student begins university studies with a 3-credit book exam (course code 2122112b). Undergraduate students always complete 5 ECTS courses at a time. The course is compulsory in basic literature studies. Accomplishment methods

Modes of study Lecture course or book exam. The lecture course can be implemented as either face-to-face or online teaching. Evaluation criteria: A learning diary or book exam based on lectures and accompanying material.
