Objective

Content
The course covers the diversity of the concept of culture as well as other key concepts in cultural research, as well as the philosophical foundations of cultural research, historical lines and theoretical developments, and recent trends and focus on contemporary culture.

Timing: The first semester of bachelor studies Offer information: Compulsory course for students starting in the fall of 2018 or later as a major student in the degree program in Cultural Studies. Those who started as major students in the degree program in Cultural Studies before 2018 do not have to complete the introductory studies in Cultural Studies 20 ECTS (2120220 Fundamentals of Cultural Studies 5 ECTS, 2120221 Practices in Cultural Studies 5 ECTS, 2120222 Perspectives in Cultural Studies 5 ECTS However, if a student who started in 2013–2017 has not completed the compulsory course 2110018 Introduction to Cultural Studies and their Study 3 ECTS, he or she must take the course 2120222 Perspectives in Cultural Studies (5 ECTS) instead. Execution methods
The course is completed by participating in contact teaching (lectures, assignments) in the autumn of the first year of study. JO students, transfer students, or other students in the degree program in Cultural Studies who are unable to participate in the fall of the first year of study can complete the course independently through learning assignments. The completion of the learning tasks is agreed with the teacher in charge of the course.
Accomplishment methods
Methods of performance: Lecture and examination, as well as assignments related to the course. Judging criteria: Approved performance includes 80% attendance, active participation, and a final exam.
