Objective

The clinical patient care practices related to the "Clinical Patient Work" module help the student apply the theoretical knowledge from their studies to practical patient care. • After the practical training, the student will be able to independently conduct patient interviews and clinical examinations, as well as produce patient medical record notes. • The student will be able to understand how theoretical knowledge is transferred into practical patient care solutions and will be able to perform clinical diagnostics under guidance. • The student will be able to perform small procedures related to patient care, such as inserting an IV cannula, removing sutures, catheterizing the bladder, and taking arterial blood samples (Astrup test), at least under supervision. • After the training, the student will understand the importance and position of assessing the need for outpatient care and carrying out the treatment within the patient's care chain. • After the training, the student will understand the basics of perioperative and postoperative ward care for surgical patients. • The student will understand the fundamentals of interdisciplinary teamwork and will be able to grasp the principles of care levels and care processes. • During the operating room week, the student will learn how to monitor vital signs and ventilate a surgical patient (laryngeal mask). • After the operating room week, the student will understand the basics of preoperative, perioperative, and postoperative patient care, as well as the different forms of anesthesia. • During the operating room week, the student will learn how to dress sterilely for surgery and assist with surgeries.

Content

Applying the theoretical content of internal medicine, surgical specialties, and emergency medicine to practical patient care through guided face-to-face teaching.

Qualifications

It is recommended to familiarize oneself with the literature on the typical diseases of the unit’s patients before the practical training period.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Pass-fail.

All teaching is guided face-to-face learning: • Internal medicine emergency clinic training 3 x 6h = 18h • Surgical emergency clinic training 3 x 6h = 18h • Surgical ward on-call training 1 x 6h = 6h • Internal medicine outpatient clinic training 4h • Operating room training 18h • Internal medicine ward training 35h • Surgical ward training 35h

Accomplishment methods

All teaching is guided face-to-face learning in patient care: outpatient clinic and emergency clinic teaching, ward and operating room training, and observing the work of the surgical ward on-call team.
