Objective

During this study unit, you will deepen your knowledge about the decision making process in family nursing. You will be able to encounter, guide and counsel clients focusing on the promotion of their health and functional capacity. You will apply the principles of critical thinking and problem- solving to nursing work.

Competence goals:
- You can define and plan evidence-based, resource-oriented and health promoting methods to implement family nursing by taking the cultural background of the clients into account.
- You understand sexuality, and the meaning of sexual and reproductive health in family nursing.
- You are familiar with the phases, monitoring and follow-up during a normal pregnancy, childbirth, and the post-partum period.
- You are familiar with the special features of pregnancy follow-up in the areas of sparse    population and long distances.
- You are familiar with the phases in the growth and development of a child.
- You understand the meaning of attachment and early interaction for the growth and development of a child.
- You understand the importance of support for parenthood and in the everyday life of a family with children.
- You are familiar with the special features of children who suffer from illnesses or disabilities. You know the main principles of relevant nursing care.
- You apply your knowledge about the most common long-term illnesses of children and adolescents in nursing work.
- You understand the challenges and features of the northern area and the long distances in the nursing care of a sick child.
- You are able to identify the care needs of children and young people with special needs.
- You know the relevant local, distance, online, and mobile services to promote the health and wellbeing of families.
