Osaamistavoitteet

English for Human Ageing and Elderly Services opintojakson tavoitteena on valmentaa vanhustyön opiskelijaa työelämän ja kansainvälisyyden edellyttämiin viestintätaitoihin englanninkielellä. Opintojakson teemat liittyvät geronomiopintoihin sekä geronomin työhön ja tilanteisiin. Englannin kieliopinnot on opetussuunnitelmassa integroitu kahteen ydinosaamisen opintojaksoon (K702GL37, K702GL38), joissa ammattiin liittyvää englannin kielen osaamista kehitetään ja suullista ja kirjallista kielitaitoa arvioidaan.

Opintojakson osaamistavoitteena on, että oleellista englannin sanastoa käyttäen opiskelija osaa arvioida omaa kielitaitoaan ja kielitaidon kehittymistä. Opiskelija osaa keskustella englanniksi alan opinnoista ja tehdä video-CV:n. Opiskelija osaa käyttää silmäilytekniikkaa lukiessaan Gerontologinen kuntoutus ja geronteknologia K702GL38 opintojaksoon liittyviä englanninkielisiä tieteellisiä artikkeleita ja kirjoittaa referaatin englannin kielellä. Opiskelija osaa pitää työhön liittyvän esitelmän englanniksi. Liittyen ydinosaamisen opintojakson K702GL37 lukukausiprojektiin, opiskelija osaa suunnitella ja kirjoittaa alan asiakastyöhön ja ohjaukseen liittyvän ohjaussuunnitelman englanniksi ja dokumentoida sen virtuaalisin keinoin kommunikoiden englanniksi case tehtävässä. Lisäksi opiskelija osaa käyttää erilaisia digitaalisia oppimis-, opetus -ja ohjaustyökaluja ja kartuttaa niiden avulla yhteiskuntaan, vanhustyöhön, ohjaukseen ja asiakkaan kohtaamiseen liittyvää englannin sanastoa.

Fail / Redo
Student’s performance is below the requirements for Grade 1. The content is not correct for the situation nor assignments because the student does not know the correct words and expressions. The language used and the grammatical forms are incorrect to the extent that the output is incomprehensible. Vastly incorrect pronunciation makes it impossible to communicate in English. There is no interaction on any level and the student is not able to demonstrate hardly any English competence in assignments and in a professional situation.

Grade 1
Student communicates with difficulties in words choices, grammar and structures. Grammatical structures are very basic and most of the time incorrect. Communicated sentences are short and simple making the speech fragmented and difficult to understand. There are major problems in pronunciation, word and sentence stress and together with intonation challenges the language produced may be very difficult to understand. There is hardly any interaction between the student and the peers during learning activities but the student is able to complete tasks with the help of others. Student struggles in demonstrating coping in a professional situation.
Grade 2
Student communicates in English with shortcomings in the use of professional terminology and concepts. The use of variable grammatical forms and structures is limited. Grammatical errors occur but the main message can be understood. Student has major challenges in correct pronunciation, word and sentence stress and intonation and they may impede intelligibility of the main message. Student fails to communicate clearly and the language produced may be hard to understand. Student is not very active in interacting with peers and s/he may fail to comprehend the given learning tasks. Student is able to complete the learning tasks individually or with others and s/he is able to demonstrate fair skills and coping in a professional situation in English.

Grade 3
Student communicates in a comprehensible manner using also professional language and terminology. The language is appropriate for the situation and the terms and concepts used are mostly correct. All expressions used in English are not exact to convey the message but the speaker can communicate the main ideas intelligibly in her/his own words. The basic grammatical forms are correct. Occasional errors in grammatical forms and structures are not systematic, and they do not impede interaction. There are shortcomings in pronunciation, word and sentence stress and intonation but they do not for the most part obstruct intelligibility of communication. There are some challenges in communicating with peers and in a professional context, but the student is actively participating in the various learning activities and he/she is able to complete the given tasks with others and to demonstrate workable English skills in a professional communication situation.
Grade 4
Student uses English with ease and he/she is able to communicate using professional language and terminology both orally and in writing with no misunderstandings. Student has a wide vocabulary knowledge in use and he/she produces language in a clear and well-structured manner. The professional terms and concepts used are appropriate and for the most part correct in communication situations. There are some shortcomings in grammatical forms and structures but they do not impede interaction. The content of communication is correct for various situations. Pronunciation, word and sentence stress and intonation are correct most of the time. Student is actively interacting with peers and shows high English skills during the learning activities including a professional communication situation.

Grade 5
Student uses English with ease. He/she communicates professional language and idiomatic expressions naturally and fluently. The terms and concepts used are appropriate and correct for the situation. Grammatical forms and structures are versatile and for the most part flawless. Student is able to demonstrate excellent situational awareness with relevant contents and appropriate language choices. Student communicates clearly in the context of his/her own profession both in terms of writing and speaking. Pronunciation, word choices, sentence stress and intonation are natural. Student is actively interacting with peers and shows excellent English skills and competence during and in all the learning activities.

Opintojaksolla on neljä palautettavaa tehtävää, joiden lisäksi opiskelija tekee alkuitsearvioinnin ja loppuitsearvioinnin. Tehtävät ovat samanarvoisia lopulliseen arvosanaan suhteutettuna. IItsenäisessä suorituksessa tentti ja tehtävät ovat arvioinnissa samanarvoisia.

Suoritusvaihtoehdot
English for Human Ageing and Ederly Services opintojakson voi suorittaa ja vaadittua englannin osaamista osoittaa kahdella eri tavalla. Opiskelija sitoutuu valitsemaansa osaamisenosoitus- vaihtoehtoon ensimmäisessä verkkotyöpajassa (Info ja orientaatio).

1. Etäkurssivaihtoehto: osallistuminen AC-verkkotyöpajoihin (osallistumisvelvoite 90 %), opintojakson teemoihin liittyvät tehtävät pienryhmissä (ei tenttiä).

2. Itsenäinen vaihtoehto: opintojakson teemoihin liittyvät tehtävät yksin, kirjallinen tentti examissa teemojen sanastoon liittyen. (ei osallistumisvelvoitetta AC-työpajoihin)

Huom! Opiskelija voi myös hakea hyväksilukua osittain tai kokonaan, jos hänellä on todistus aiemmista samanlaajuisista englannin opinnoista korkeakoulutasolta. Hyväksilukua voi myös hakea työkokemuksen perusteella osittaisena tai, jos englanti on opiskelijan äidinkieli, kokonaan. Osittaisessa hyväksiluvussa opiskelija tekee lisäsuorituksena suullisen ja kirjallisen tentin opintojakson teemojen sanastoon liittyen. Kaikki hakemukset hyväksiluvuista tehdään Pepin kautta.
