Designing and Marketing Tourism Services (project)
The student understands the significance of tourism services and product development as a part of responsible tourism business development and operational management process in a tourism company. He/she has basic readiness to design and price experiential tourism services and products based on local resources in the glocal context by taking into account the principles of responsible tourism business and contemporary approaches in tourism product development. He/she learns to use various co-creation tools and methods to generate innovative ideas.
The student understands the meaning of profitability in the tourism sector and companies and adopts profitability thinking. He/she knows the basics of profitability planning and related key-ratios. He/she learns to make profitability planning-related calculations (budgets, financing, investments, sustainable pricing) on a basic level for a micro/small tourism company.

Opetusmenetelmät
The Tourism Living Lab pedagogical concept, which connects theory and practice, has been co-created to support holistic learning process. As the result there is always a tourism industry based commission or commissions which is/are the starting point for the designing and developing profitable tourism services/products. The study unit is closely linked with tourism marketing and e-commerce related studies as well as operational management in tourism.
Due to the multi-method pedagogical approach various pedagogical methods, such as lectures, visiting lecturers, workshops, practical projects and learning assignments e.g. a reaction paper and/or exams, practical sustainable pricing and profitability related calculations are used in the study unit. The specified timetable of the learning process of approximately eight weeks is planned together with the working life and given at the beginning of the study unit. Tutoring and multi- stakeholder assessment of the learning process take place throughout the study unit according to the assessment criteria.
10 ECTS=266 h is divided in 2 x 5 ECTS.
The 1st 5 ECTS = Designing Tourism Services, which is implemented in three phases; Theoretical Journey, Practical Journey (as an intensive week 20 - 27.2.2023) and Reflective Journey
The 2nd 5 ECTS= Profitability planning and sustainable pricing of an experiential tourism service/product, which is connected to the designing services through sustainable tourism service/product pricing. As a result the sustainable pricing is implemented from week 4 till week 7. Then after week 10, profitability planning part is implemented.
