Objective

Having completed this study unit:

- You recognize the legal environment of sports; sports law as a field of law, essential laws and regulation in the field of sports law and the different actors in the field

- You can identify legal issues/factors in organizing sports events, in sponsorship contracts, in intellectual properties and in tv-rights.

- You recognize crimes and minor offences in sports, you know the sanctions and disciplinary proceedings, arbitration procedures and the principles of compensation for damage.

- You know the basics of employment and labour law in sports

Content

Theme 1. Sports law (as a field of law, terms, laws and regulations, basic rights, actors in sports and their legal status, legal environment of sports)

Theme 2. Sports law in the sports field (legal issues/factors related to sports events, sponsorship agreements, intellectual properties and tv-rights)

Theme 3. Crimes, minor offences and sanctions (criminal law in sports, disciplinary proceedings in sports, arbitration procedures and compensation for damage)

Theme 4: The principles of employment and labour law in sports (sports clubs as employers, rights and duties of employees and employers)

Materials

The learning material will be given in the beginning of the study unit and in the implementation plan. 

Teaching methods

Learning process includes lectures, teamwork, problem solving, case studies, exam, independent studies and knowledge acquisition activities.
