Tavoitteet

After completion of the course the student is able to
- recognize central theoretical discussions on foresight and service design in general and within the field of tourism in particular
- critically evaluate the role of foresight and service design in developing service concepts that are better informed for facing future challenges
- critically appraise the combination of foresight and service design methods for the development of tourism service concepts that are economically, socially, culturally, and environmentally responsible
- conceptualize, plan, coordinate, implement, and assess a tourism service design process that takes into account different stakeholder groups as well as broader foresight issues.

Sisältö

Service design, service design methods, socially responsible design, value co-creation, human-centered design, stakeholder-centered design, co-design, service interface, customer journey, service development, innovation, future thinking, strategic foresight, foresight methods.

Aika ja paikka

On-campus FACE-TO-FACE. This course requires 80% attendance during lectures 16.3-20.3. In addition there is MANDATORY attendance on the presentation day 24.4. During 8.4-17.4 you will be allotted one slot per group to work on your presentation on-campus in the Sinco-lab. The slot will be allotted at the start of the course.

Opetusmenetelmät

This course is offered FACE-TO-FACE on-campus with 20h on-campus lectures/workshops, 6h on-campus group-work in Sinco-lab, one day of on-campus group presentations.
To pass the course you must successfully complete reaction papers, group-work and attend 80% of the lectures/workshops on-campus, and attend the presentation day on-campus.

Fail (0): The student's performance is deficient, lacking recognition of key theoretical discussions on foresight and service design. There is an inability to critically evaluate the combined use of these concepts for the development of responsible tourism services. The student fails to effectively conceptualize, plan, and assess a tourism service design process that considers different stakeholder groups as well as broader foresight issues.

Sufficient (1): The student's comprehension of essential theoretical discussions on foresight and service design is inadequate. There is a weak evaluation of the combined application of these concepts for the development of responsible tourism services. The student exhibits only a basic proficiency in conceptualizing, planning, and assessing a tourism service design process, with limited consideration for diverse stakeholder groups and broader foresight issues.

Satisfactory (2): The student's understanding of fundamental theoretical discussions on foresight and service design is passable. There is an acceptable evaluation of the combined application of these concepts for the development of responsible tourism services. The student demonstrates only moderate proficiency in conceptualizing, planning, and assessing a tourism service design process, with limited consideration for diverse stakeholder groups and broader foresight issues.

Good (3): The student understands the fundamental theoretical discussions on foresight and service design. The student is able to evaluate the combined application of these concepts for the development of responsible tourism services. The student demonstrates to be able to conceptualize, plan, and assess a tourism service design process, with consideration for diverse stakeholder groups and broader foresight issues.

Very good (4): The student exhibits a strong understanding of fundamental theoretical discussions on foresight and service design. There is a critical evaluation of the combined application of these concepts for the development of responsible tourism services. The student displays a thorough understanding of how to conceptualize, plan, and assess a tourism service design process, with thoughtful consideration for diverse stakeholder groups and broader foresight issues.
