Objective
After completing the course, the student -will be familiar with the basics and key operators of international, European and national protection systems of refugees and other displaced populations. -understand the systematics and main content of international protection regulations and be able to use key concepts correctly - be able to apply the rules on international protection to daily situations and use legal sources fluently in argumentation - is able to analyze legal problems related to the topic The course unit will develop the following generic traits: - ethics - internationality - sustainability and responsibility - critical thinking
Content
Main focus of the course is on the legal principles and international, European and national legislation on protecting refugees and other displaced populations. The course will also take a look at the specific characteristics of asylum procedure. Themes touched on during the lectures are forced migration as a phenomenon (reasons, countries of origin and host countries, routes and dynamics), international systems of protection of refugees, rights recognized in relevant human rights instruments, the common European asylum system and its development, and the Finnish national asylum system and its development.

Opintojaksolle osallistumisen edellytyksenä on ulkomaalaisoikeuden opintojakso (5311320). Lisäksi suositellaan Perus- ja ihmisoikeudet -seminaarin (5311092) suorittamista. Perustelu: ulkomaalaisoikeuden kurssi luo välttämättömän tiedollisen pohjan kansainvälisen suojelun kysymysten tarkastelulle.
