The student will make a scientific report based on the work performed. The course develops the following generic skills: critical thinking, identification and development of one's own expertise, and communication.
Content
The work may consist of construction of a measuring device, planning and performance of laboratory experiments, programming an algorithm for data analysis or implementation of a modeling or simulation system. Substitutions: 3352982 Project Work in Applied Physics Teachers: Professors, researchers and lecturers of the department. This course is intended for the following student groups: • Undergraduate students in Technical Physics (MSc) • Undergraduate students in Applied Physics (MSc) Further information: This course name and code is only used if you do more than one Technical Physics project work. The original course is LS00DB60 Project Work in Technical Physics Required skills: Laboratory courses in physics
Execution methods
Professors, researchers and lecturers of the department can act as the supervisors. If the work is done outside the department, e.g. in a company, the main supervisor can be the representative of the company. However, another supervisor belonging to the personnel of the department need to be appointed to review and approve the final report. Student is free to suggest also his/her own topics. Before starting the practical work, the student needs to deliver a course plan (the official form is available) to the departmental office. When filling up the form, the student needs to consult the supervisor to define the content, number of the credits and schedule of the work. A detailed work plan constructed together with the supervisor needs to be attached to the course plan. The responsible teacher approves the plan. The final report needs to follow the structure of the scientific report (introduction, objectives, materials/methods, results, conclusion, references). In the introduction part of the report, also the different working phases with the corresponding working hours need to be indicated. The supervisor reviews and approves the report. The responsible teacher of the course accepts or rejects the final report. The forms and more detailed instructions can be found on the course's Moodle website: https://moodle.uef.fi/course/view.php?id=23441.
