Objective

Learning outcomes: On completion of the course the student will be able to • identify some key questions and basic principles of learner corpus research • understand the contribution of learner corpus research to second language acquisition research and language teaching • analyse learner language and the learning process with the help of corpus data and methods • design and implement a small empirical study on learner corpora The course develops the following work life skills Meaning-making, holistic management capability, time management, information retrieval, argumentation skills, presentation skills, language skills, intercultural skills Generic competences: digitalization, internationality, critical thinking, identification and development of expertise, interaction and communication

Execution methods

Lectures, hands-on corpus exercises in groups and individually, reading and discussing articles, conducting and presenting a small empirical study.

Accomplishment methods

Modes of study: Lectures and exercises (20 h), independent work (115 h). The course requires 80 % attendance. Evaluation criteria: Active participation in contact teaching pass/fail, corpus exercises (20 %), a report of the empirical study (80 %).
