This course examines instances of international political economy (IPE), contemporary diplomacy, geo-economic & geo-strategic theory, Arctic entrepreneurship and international cooperation in the context of the circumpolar Arctic emerging market.

This course examines instances of international political economy (IPE), contemporary diplomacy, geo-economic & geo-strategic theory, Arctic entrepreneurship and international cooperation in the context of the circumpolar Arctic emerging market. The course studies on theories, patterns and frameworks that have been intended as tools for enabling, explaining, fostering or frame up the political and economic development of the circumpolar Arctic. The course content is divided bythe following themes:
SESSION 1: IS THE ARCTIC A FRONTIER OR EMERGING MARKET?
SESSION 2: COOPERATION THEORY & ARCTIC GOVERNANCE
SESSION 3: ARCTIC GOVERNANCE
SESSION 4: GOVERNANCE & SECURITY -THEORY VS. PRACTICE
SESSION 5: RESOURCE-BASED BUSINESS (ENERGY, MINING, WATER, TOURISM)
SESSION 6: ARCTIC IDENTITIES, REGIONALISM & BUSINESS COOPERATION
SESSION 7: NORTH-SOUTH VS. EAST-WEST RELATIONSHIPS IN THE ARCTIC
SESSION 8: LOBBYING VS. PRIVATE DIPLOMACY
SESSION 9: THE ICE BLUE GROWTH - INNOVATION IN THE ARCTIC
SESSION 10: PERSPECTIVE ECONOMICS RESEARCH. COURSE WRAP UP

Class lectures, Online Lectures, group work and assignments via I-Linc. Independent work and temwork.
Course is delivered in cooperation between Lapland UAS (Rovaniemi campus) and POLARISC Group (London/Paris)
3 days of class lectures (in Rovaniemi) available also in live stream via i-linc and inrecorded format (for students who can not participate in class lectures in Rovaniemi). Lectures in Rovaniemi will take place on 1.6, 2.6. and 3.6.
Lectures in i-linc according to the following schedule provisionally take place from 13.00-15.00 (Finnish time)
