Objective
Learning outcomes: After completing the course, the student - knows the basics of phonetics and the phonological and morphological structure of the Finnish language - can describe and classify Finnish sounds according to the place and manner of pronunciation - recognizes the different stems and inflectional types of nouns and verbs - is able to analyze the morphophonological variations in the inflection of words - is able to divide the inflections of the Finnish language into morphemes and form different inflections - masters the terminology related to Finnish inflection morphology The course develops subject-specific working life skills: Understanding the special features of the Finnish sound and form structure. Management and application of basic concepts of sound and form structure description in the analysis of language subjects. Understanding of the special features of Finland in a multilingual community.
Methods of completion
Methods of performance: Lecture and exercise course (lectures 28 h, exercises 14 h), independent work 93 h. Active participation in exercises is necessary. The course cannot be replaced by other methods of study. Evaluation criteria: Lecture exam 0–5
Content
Contents: Basics of articulatory phonetics, special features and description of the phonetic structure of the Finnish language, word classes, stems and inflectional types of nouns and verbs, morphophonological variation, paradigm types, inflection categories of nouns and verbs.
