Objective

Upon completing the course, the student will understand the fundamentals of art education based on contemporary art and taking into account northern and Arctic conditions. They will also be familiar with various applications of art in social, cultural, and environmental settings and educational contexts. The student will be able to apply the methods of contemporary art education in northern and Arctic sociocultural contexts and situations.

Execution methods

Active participation in online lectures and seminars, group work and the field workshop, required tasks and reports.

Accomplishment methods

Hybrid teaching; Online lectures and seminar, independent work and group work.
Participation in the implementation of the field workshop as a team (Nomadic Hub of Arctic Art Education)
The introduction of the course and to the theory is arranged with online connections to the participating universities and includes collaboration on web- based platforms. Fieldwork part is arranged on selected location on-site collecting all together. Reports, refletions and documentation are shared after the fieldwork online.

Content

The course will introduce the terminology, theoretical and expressive foundations, as well as the potential of the new genre Arctic art strategy in the context of art's practical and educational applications in the northern and Arctic regions. The students will delve into theory and applications by exploring literature in the field and studying art. The acquired knowledge will be applied in the planning and implementation of a field workshop.
Each student will choose works from the literature and articles provided in the course that support their own work, expression, and thinking.

Qualifications

The course is intended for both BA and MA students, but it can also be suitable for postgraduate students with adjustments in terms of requirements and literature.
