Objective
Upon successful completion of the course, the doctoral candidate will:
- be familiar with funding opportunities in Finland for doctoral research
- know how to put together a funding application, CV, research plan and budget
- know how to put together a communication plan for their research
- be familiar with the basics of scientific publication
- know how to asses publication channels and promote their visibility as a researcher
Execution methods
Pre- assignment, two days of lectures, group discussions and assignments.
Accomplishment methods
Active participation in the lectures and discussions, completion of course assignments. Attendance requirement min. 80 %.
Content
The course comprises of lectures as well as group and individual tasks dealing with the following:
- the different parts of a typical funding application
- science communication
- scientific publication and researcher’s visibility

Please note that the attendance requirement is minimum 80 %. If you are unable to attend to a session, discuss the absence with the teachers in advance.
Teaching methods
The English-speaking group (in the spring) will be organized completely online. The group in Finnish (in the autumn) will be organized as contact teaching.
