Content

Excursion to Oulu in March or April. Visit to art museums, churches, galleries and other public places. Introduction to art exhibitions and to art works in public places. Please note that students must pay for the excursions accommodation in Oulu themselves.

Assignment has two part: public art and art exhibitions

Public art
Reflect a relationship between public art and environmental. Be personal; write about how you experience public art and environment. What is public art and why, what is its meaning?
Make visual notes; by drawing, photographing, spaces, your observations. If it is possible, go and find public art in the city where you live.

Exhibitions
Write about what you have seen, what makes impression to you and try to analyze why it happens. Enjoy the art and write about it. Observe and study different ways to show an exhibition on web site and on virtual galleries. Write about your results.

Put your text and chosen images (drawings, photos) together (Word doc) and return your essay latest by Tuesday 2nd of May to Leila leila.lipiainen@ulapland.fi You can find your extra web sites also but please write all the founded links and material end of your essay.

Exhibitions in Rovaniemi: Rovaniemi Art Museum (free entry on Thursday at 4-6), Gallery Napa and Studio Mustanapa (Kairatie 3), Varjo Gallery (Toripuistikko), Exhibitions in Main Library Lapponica-hall, F-house new exhibitions every three weeks, in Arktikum-house Gallery Valo and Katve 1 and 2 also free entry. All are free.

If you have anything to ask, please do not hesitate to ask. (But please don’t ask how many pages you have to write – I hope essay is interesting and has lot of thoughts.) 2 points is 54 hours independent work.
