Objective

Upon completing this module, the student should be able to discuss in depth various questions related to the law of international organizations

Execution methods

A) Written examination on Klabbers Jan, Advanced Introduction to the Law of International Organizations (Edward Elgar 2015) AND Ian Hurd, International Organizations – Politics, Law, Practice (Cambridge, 2020).
The written examination is available as an e-exam in the electrical exam service (called EXAM).

B) Lectures

Accomplishment methods

You can get credits for the module from:

A) 4 ECTS: (electronic) literature exam
B) 1-2 ECTS: lectures and/or seminar

You can choose either part A and/or part B.

Content

The course will focus on the development and operation of the United Nations and/or other international organizations.

Teaching methods

The 3 ECTS course consists of lectures in person & lecture recordings (+ a lecture test) and a group work treaty drafting exercise to be presented in a seminar (in person). The lecturers are Professor Emeritus Matti Niemivuo and Professor of Public International Law Lotta Viikari, who also organize the seminar together.

You can use the 3 ECTS from this course either for the study module ONEVAL0029 LAW OF INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS or OTMEVAL0021 PUBLIC INTERNATIONAL LAW.

Minimum group size: 8 students.
Registration for the course: in Peppi by 28.8.2022, code OTMEVAL0021 (also for students using the course for ONEVAL0029).

NB. The deadline for returning the group work exercise for the seminar is Sept 22.
