Instructions for the research literature exam in graphic design AGRA0501 (2 cr.) 2023:

The graphic design research literature exam is performed by writing an essay using e-books available at the university library. Choose one of the books from the list below:

Instructions for writing an essay:
• Write an essay consisting of 7–10 pages.
• Start with a short abstract/summary of the main topics of the book (3–5 pages).
• Then choose one topic which you are most interested in. Explain the topic in detail. Reflect and comment the topic from your own point of view, as a designer (3–5 pages).

Suositellaan essee-suoritusta. Mikäli kirjoitat esseen englanninkielisestä teoksesta, riittää, että luet vain yhden kirjan. Suomenkielisistä (ks. edellä) kirjoista valitaan kaksi. Etäopetuksen aikana listallle on lisätty myös e-kirjoja.
Esseeohjeet:
• Pituus 7-10 s.
• Merkitse selvästi aineistona käyttämäsi kirja/kirjat.
• Aluksi, tiivistä kirjan/kirjojen keskeinen sisältö. (3-5 s.)
• Valitse kiinnostavin aihealue ja referoi sisältöä tämän aihe-alueen tiimoilta tarkemmin.
Kommentoi oman kokemuksesi ja graafisen suunnittelijan näkökulmasta. (3-5 s.)

Fail
The performance is very incomplete or incorrect, or contains significant misunderstandings.

Passable and satisfactory (1-2)
Performance is narrow, superficial, or poorly matched to assignment. The performance is limited to listing things in isolation, or dealing with things unilaterally. Execution may contain errors or ambiguities.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good and commendable (3-4)
Performance corresponds to assignment, demonstrates understanding and the ability to analyze and justify. The whole picture has been formed, but there may be shortcomings.

Excellent (5)
The performance outlines a broad entity and the knowledge can be applied multidimensionally or placed in different contexts. Performance demonstrates independent grip and insight. Performance is an intact entity that includes justified self-thinking or critical reflection. The answer is well written or implemented.
