Objective

The course provides the student with an opportunity to familiarize him- or herself with various issues, which are important for an understanding of life in Britain today.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student should have a more life comprehensive understanding of life in Britain today.

Execution methods

Lectures and discussion, individual homework, some pair work and small group activities, 36 h. Individual homework.

Accomplishment methods

Successful completion of the final exam, active participation in discussions, regular attendance.

Content

An overview of British history taking into account the various countries of the United Kingdom: Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, and England. Focus on British media, government and politics, religion, the role of Empire and the Commonwealth today, racial and ethnic issues, education.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

5-1/fail based on the final exam/paper and class participation.

Upper secondary school or equivalent.

No fixed class meeting times. Course has tasks with weekly deadlines. Online interviews arranged with individual students.
