Learning objectives:

The student
- knows the significance of preventive substance abuse work
- can identify cultural, social and health factors connected to substance abuse
- can describe individual and communal factors connected to addictive behaviour
- knows various substance abuse treatment methods and can refer clients within the service system
- can counsel a substance abuse rehabilitation client

Contents:
- Preventive substance abuse work
- Nature of alcohol/drug addiction
- Other addictions, such as gambling
- Different treatment ideologies, motivating interview, substance abuse rehabilitation
- Substance abuse services and substance abuse law

Content

Substance abuse: social, cultural, community, and individual factors contribute to the development of addiction. Preventive work, various treatment options, substance abuse rehabilitation and substance abuse legislation.

Good (3–4):
The student can explain and analyse individual and societal factors affecting substance abuse and can counsel how to use the service systems.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5):
The student can analyse and assess individual and societal factors affecting substance abuse and knows how various forms of treatment can be used in substance abuse rehabilitation.
