One Welfare - Animal (5cr)

Objective

1. Acquiring comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental requirements for animal care while understanding the broader implications of animal welfare and sustainability of the entire food system. 2. Developing a thorough understanding of how to ensure animal welfare by adhering to established welfare standards and applying best practices in disease prevention, maintenance of health, responsible farming, and effective animal care. 3. Examining the human–animal interaction, including the role of animals in supporting human well-being through green care practices, as well as their role in the food chain through ethically responsible meat production. 4. Identifying the key indicators of good animal welfare, including observable signs of comfort, contentment, and positive experiences in animals. 5. Engaging on animal care and sustainability, and developing practices that promote the welfare of animals, humans, and the environment in alignment with One Welfare principles.

Content

1. Animal welfare as part of the food system and principles of sustainable livestock production practices; the role of animal welfare in ensuring the safety, quality, and sustainability of the food system. 2. Ensuring safe environments for animals. Promote prevention and controlling of health and diseases; upholding ethical standards in the use of animals for farming and recreational purposes. 3. Human-animal relationships: emotional and therapeutic roles of animals, cultural and social value of animals, green care and animal-assisted activities, meat production. 4. Understanding and recognizing indicators of animal well-being; exploring global perspectives and standards on animal welfare. 5. Implementing ecosystem-based approaches to food and livestock systems.
