Objective
After completing the course unit, the students will- understand the significance of activities aiming at societal impact and development and their role in themOR- understand leadership theories and be able to apply them in practiceAND- be able to use their experiences of holding societal positions in studies and working life.
Content
Students may earn a total of max 10 credits for the course unit for having been regularly and actively involved in, for example, - the activities of an NGO, development project etc. (1 - 10 credits)AND/OR- has completed leadership training during conscript service in the Finnish Defence Forces (5 credits)

A student can be given credits for being active in the same societal position only once.A student may include a total of 5 credits obtained from studies comparable to positions of trust in the bachelor’s and master’s degree, for example, 5 credits in the bachelor’s degree and 5 in the master’s degree.For the assessment, students prepare a linguistically prepared report describing their activities in a societal post in which they reflect the competence they have gained. The report related to the task (min. 2 pages) must include the following:- a description of the activities and the operating environment- an assessment of learning, for example, based on different situations and cases;- a description of how the experience has benefited learning, preparation for a profession/working life and graduation;- reflection on how the activity has supported the achievement of the learning outcomes of the degree;- a certificate of the aforementioned activity and its duration. If necessary, the student specifies the number of hours spent on the activity in the report.More detailed criteria and reporting may include faculty- or unit-specific differences and guidelines.The student must submit the report as an e-mail attachment to the faculty’s e-mail. The e-mail message should be titled as follows: code and name of the course unit / the student’s degree programme or specialisation
