A comparison of two grammatical models of English.

Qualifications

This elective is suitable for MA-level students with English as their major or minor subject at their own university, if they have read the Longman Student Grammar of Spoken and Written English (Biber et al. 2002) prior to this elective.

This independent elective is only available for those exchange students who have read the Longman Student Grammar of Spoken and Written English (Biber et al. 2002) as coursework at their own university. The Structures of English elective invites students to read a new descriptive grammar of English and compare it with the Longman Student Grammar. The comparison is done in a reading journal, for which detailed instructions will be available. The journal is written in two parts, and feedback will be provided after the first part has been submitted.
