Objective
The student understands the key factors affecting the state of forests and their health and the means and possibilities of managing forest health and biodiversity. The students are able to report in a structured and analytical way the importance of biodiversity management, conservation and sustainable use of forests from the perspective of forest health, management and forest carbon sequestration. Forest health monitoring and its role in forestry. In-depth study of a specific topic related to forest health and biodiversity through thematically compiled and analyzed literature.
Content
Impacts of forest ecosystem disturbances on forest state, health and biodiversity. Sustainable management and protective use of forest biodiversity and promotion of forest carbon stocks. Forest health and biodiversity monitoring; biodiversity hot spots. Deep orientation to thematically collected literature based on which a literature research is implemented.
Qualifications
Previous studies: LM00CM14 Forest damage and diseases (3 cp) or equivalent studies in forest health.
Materials
Learning material reserved in Moodle is reflected into the Moodle system. The course can be completed in Finnish or in English, but the reserved learning material is in English.
Further information
Continuous registration. After registration note the professor by email to agree the topic for literature work and get a key to go in the course Moodle.
Execution methods
After registration to the course is in the system the student will contact the teacher by e-mail to agree on the start of a literature review and to get key to course Moodle. Working on a literature thesis on a topic agreed with the teacher and reflecting on the learning material reserved at Moodle, through the Moodle system.
Accomplishment methods
The course is done virtually fully in Moodle. Reflecting learning material available in Moodle using the Moodle system. Making a literature study based on compiled material by the student on the topic agreed with the professor. Student can suggest the topic for literature study that most interests her/him. Course is evaluated pass/fail
