Objective

After completing the course, the student • Knows the structures and properties of simple organic compounds • Knows the basics of organic substitution and elimination reactions • Governs the basic principles of organic spectroscopy

Content

Hybridization of carbon, carbon–carbon-bonds, structure of hydrocarbons. Stereochemistry (E/Z- and R/S-systems). Cyclic structures. Alkyl halides, alcohols, amines, ethers and organosulfur compounds. Substitution and elimination reactions. Basic principles of organic spectroscopy (IR, MS, NMR).

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
