After completing the course, you will: - know the basics of jurisprudence - recognize key sources of law - be able to retrieve material from databases that are relevant to law studies - know how to write legal text that is in keeping with the Law School's Academic Writing Guide - be familiar with good scientific practice and can follow it in your studies This course unit develops the following generic competences: -digitalization -ethics

The key trends of Law and basics of jurisprudence. Legal information retrieval and writing. The ethics of studying and conducting research. Study skills.

Further information

The course coresponds tot he previous course 5311002 Introduction to Legal Studies. The students who have completed the previous course cannot complete this course. The language of instruction is Finnish.

Execution methods

The course uses learning platforms. All course work will be returned into and according to the guides and schedules in the platforms.

Accomplishment methods

The course has two alternative modes of study, of which the other is intended only for degree students and the other for non-degree students: Degree studens: Compulsory teaching (16 h), compulsory learning assignments, independent and group work 38 h. Other students: Compulsory lecture recordings, compusory learning assignments, independent work 38 h. Evaluation criteria: The course will be evaluated Pass/Fail.
