Objective
Learning outcomes: Understanding of physical and chemical phenomena taking place in combustion processes, properties of fuels, how to calculate and assess emission factors based on fuel compositions and measurement data, detailed characteristics of combustion emissions, combustion technologies for different fuel types and applications, emission control technologies for different emission components and applications. The study unit develops the following generic skills/generic competences: sustainability and responsibility, critical thinking, identification and development of expertise, interaction and communication.
Content
Basic phenomena related to combustion processes, Fuel properties, Combustion of gaseous, liquid and solid fuels, Ash-related problems in combustion systems, Formation of combustion aerosols and emissions, Emission control technologies.

Execution methods
On site teaching is organized at Kuopio campus, but participation remotely is also possible.
Accomplishment methods
Modes of study: lectures 22 h, demonstrations 6 h, calculation exercises 4 h (100% obligatory attendance), laboratory works 2 h (100% obligatory attendance), independent study and written examination. Time: The course will be organised every second year (spring semesters of even years).
