Objective

After completing the course, the student will be able to: • name and classify main pollutants in indoor and outdoor air relevant for health. • explain health effects of air pollutants and main mechanisms of their action. • identify basic concepts and research methods in environmental health research • understand the relationship between properties and determinants of exposure and its health effects.

Content

Main indoor and outdoor air pollutants and their sources. Health effects of air pollutants and their key mechanisms. Basic concepts and research methods in environmental health research. An up-to-date introduction to the most recent findings and on-going work in the multidisciplinary research field. Presentation, evaluation and discussion of current literature.

Accomplishment methods

Modes of study: Lectures and other contact teaching 40 h, group work 42 h, seminar 6 h and independent studies 72 h, final exam 2 h Evaluation criteria: Participation in seminar work pass-fail, final exam fail-5. Participation in seminars is compulsory.
