Objective

Aim is to achieve understanding on aerosol physics phenomena, their applications and related measurement techniques. The course develops the following generic skills: critical thinking, identification and development of one's own expertise, interaction and communication.

Content

Following aerosol physics’ phenomena and related measurement techniques will be discussed: Characteristics of gases, straight and curvilinear motion of an aerosol particle (Newton’s resistance law, Stokes law), diffusion of aerosol particle, size distributions. The course contains exercises.

Materials

Lecture material and following books: Seinfeld & Pandis: Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (partly), Hinds: Aerosol Technology: properties, behavior and measurements of airborne particles (partly), supplementary material

Further information

The course is organized every second year, next time in spring semester 2025. This course is intended for the following student groups: • Undergraduate students in Technical Physics (MSc) • Undergraduate students in Applied Physics (MSc)
