Objective
This study unit is taught in Finnish. The translation has not been updated after 31 July 2024. Please change the language to Finnish in Peppi and read the description in Finnish. After completing the course, the student will be able to - can identify about 20 lichen-, 30 bryophyte- and 250 vascular plant species with finnish and scientifical names. - use identification guides and keys. The study unit develops the following generic skills/generic competences: identification and development of expertise.
Content
Studying the characteristics of Finland's 300 most common plant species.
Materials
Elearn material (written and videomaterial) and herbario collections can be found in the Joensuu campus Natura building (N211). As additional material, the literature below or other applicable general plant identification literature is recommended and Laji.fi portal (https://pinkka.helsinki.fi/pinkat/#/pinkkas/36) and Retkikasvio application.

Timing: spring semester (exercises and examinations). Offering data: intermediate studies in biology, Joensuu: exercises contact teaching, examinations contact teaching (possibly EXAM-examination chance). Kuopio: exercises contact teaching, examinations contact teaching ON CAMPUS OF JOENSUU (possibly EXAM-examination chance). This course is equal with LM00CM31/LM00EJ88 "Suo- ja metsäkasvilajintuntemus" and can replace with it.

Accomplishment methods
Study methods: exercises (4 h), independent study and written examination. Teaching (exercises, examinations) is carried out once a year. Evaluation criteria: written examination including 40 samples (maximum number of students/exam 25). Evaluation scale: 0-5.
