Objective

Learning outcomes: On completion of the study unit the successful student will be able to: - identify some of the key research questions and trends in contemporary ELF research - conceptualize the research questions and methodologies in ELF in relation to other fields in English linguistics The course develops the following work life skills: - Meaning-making, holistic management capability, information retrieval, presentation skills, language skills, reliability and punctuality, country and culture specialization, intercultural skills. Generic competences: internationality, sustainability and responsibility, critical thinking, identification and development of expertise, interaction and communication

Content

The course provides the students with a broad understanding of contemporary ELF (English as a lingua franca) research. The main themes of the course involve the conceptualization of ELF, ELF in Europe, ELF characteristics and processes, its contemporary domains and functions of use, and ELF in language teaching. The course is intended to help students apply the key themes in their own studies or research as well as in working life.
